It's silly season Someone said a bhoy is coming home, some have speculated Gary Hooper or Georgios Samaras, others suggesting Aiden McGeady - clearly not needed at Everton now. As I think this is a load of pish I've tagged it as rubbish, if it turns into something more substantive it can be upgraded to gossip, sort of the opposite way than we post most gossip.

  8. Celtic are reportedly pursuing Sheffield United teenager Diego De Girolamo. View image | According to the Daily Mail, Celtic want to take Sheffield United striker Diego De Girolamo on trial ahead of a possible permanent move this summer. The Bhoys have seen Leigh Griffiths hit a rich vein of goalscoring form in 2015, but John Guidetti is only on loan and Stefan Scepovic has barely made an impact. That may leave manager Ronny Deila searching for attacking reinforcements this summer, and it seems that De Girolamo is on his radar. De Girolamo is a peculiar case; born in Chesterfield, the 19-year-old's father is Italian, making him eligible to represent both England and the Azzurri. So far, De Girolamo has pledged his allegiance to Italy, making nine appearances at youth team level, and attracting plenty of interest in the process. The Daily Mail note that Benfica and Juventus are also interested in the teenager, but Celtic are trying to fight off Southampton by offering a trial to De Girolamo as they try to decide whether to make a summer bid. Currently on loan at League Two side Northampton Town, De Girolamo has played just nine times for Sheffield United, but enjoyed a productive loan spell with York City earlier this season, scoring four goals in 12 games. It's clear that De Girolamo is attracting plenty of interest, and Celtic are reportedly keen to usurp their rivals by taking him on trial and getting a glimpse of him in action before making a summer bid
  9. Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Nantes centre back Papy Djilobodji. View image | According to French website Foot Mercato 365, Celtic are interested in signing Nantes centre back Papy Djilobodji this summer. The Bhoys know that defender Jason Denayer will return to Manchester City this summer upon the expiration of his loan deal at Celtic, whilst his centre back partner Virgil van Dijk may well move on to a Premier League club at the end of the season too. That would leave manager Ronny Deila needing to sign at least one centre back, and he recently confirmed to Sky Sports that he is interested in signing Hearts captain Danny Wilson this summer. Yet now, reports from French website Foot Mercato 365 suggest that Celtic now want to sign Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji to reinforce their defence. The Senegal international, 26, stands at a giant 6ft 4in tall - the same height as van Dijk - and could be seen as the Dutchman's replacement. A regular for Nantes ever since his 2010 move from Senart-Moissy, Djilobodji has been highly-rated in France for some time now, impressing with his strength, speed and passing ability. Djilobodji has just one year remaining on his contract in France, so Celtic could land themselves a bargain if these reports from France are to be believed.

  11. The 20-year-old is a former Fulham and Spurs youth product who signed a four-year deal for the Eredivisie men when van Dijk departed. He was loaned out to Dordrecht for the second half of last term where he played a key role in securing promotion. The centre-half returned to Dordrecht in a season-long deal last summer.
  12. SOUTHAMPTON have reportedly rekindled their interest in Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk. According to the Daily Mail, scouts from St Mary’s travelled to Glasgow to watch Celtic take on Inter Milan last Thursday in the Europa League with a view to watching the 23-year-old. Southampton are keen on bolstering their backline, and look likely to miss out on the permanent signing of on-loan Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld, who is on Manchester City’s radar. Saints boss Ronald Koeman is keen on keeping the Belgian defender but accepts Southampton could struggle to compete with City on a financial level. Southampton are not alone in their van Dijk interest. Sunderland and Everton both made tentative enquiries in January but were put off by the £10 million price tag quoted by Celtic. Arsenal also registered an interest before signing Gabriel Paulista from Spanish side Villarreal.

  14. Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher is said to be wanted by Celtic when his contract runs out at the end of the season. According to the Daily Mail, Celtic will look to challenge Valencia to the signature of influential Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher. The report states that Celtic have joined Valencia and a number of Premier League clubs in the battle for the 30-year-old defensive midfielder, who is said to be making a decision within the next two weeks. Fletcher, who has been at the club since he was 11 years old, is recognised as a key figure in the United dressing room but knows, due to the influx of midfielders in the past two years, he stands little chance of keeping a regular spot in Louis van Gaal’s side. This season, he has been used primarily off the bench, with seven of his 11 appearances coming as a substitute in the last half hour of the game. Although, more recently, the Scottish international’s time on the pitch has become even more limited. Since the start of November, Fletcher has played just 97 minutes of Premier League football and hasn’t featured at all in the league since the start of 2015. However, he did play the full 90 minutes in the FA Cup against Yeovil Town where he got an assist. Now, considering the interest, it looks like his 19-year spell at Old Trafford could come to an end and Celtic may hope to beat the illustrious competition for his signature.

CELTIC are lining up a £1.5million shock swoop for ex-Hibs forward Eoin Doyle. Hoops scouts were in the stands to see the Chesterfield hitman net from the spot in the Spireites 2-2 FA Cup draw at Scunthorpe on Tuesday. The goal took the former Sligo Rovers star's tally to 22 for the season and he now has a host of English clubs on his trail. League One outfit Chesterfield have knocked back bids from two Championship sides - believed to be Sheffield United and Rotherham - while Derby County and Cardiff are also in the hunt. Celtic are also firmly in the frame having kept close tabs on the forward for the last two months and are preparing to make their move by meeting the £1.5m price tag. The 26-year-old was a scoring sensation in Ireland before being taken to Hibs by Pat Fenlon. He nabbed 11 goals in 49 games at Easter Road - despite often playing out wide rather than in his preferred role through the middle. Doyle left Hibs after the defeat to Celtic in the 2013 Scottish Cup Final and has blasted 35 goals in two-and-half seasons in England. Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner told Record Sport: “Eoin is a terrific player and a natural scorer. "Those kind of players are worth their weight in gold so it is no surprise there has been considerable interest in him.” Chesterfield boss Paul Cook admitted it will be tough to hold on to his star man but insisted he will not be allowed to go on the cheap. He said: “We’re looking to add players to our squad, to make us more successful. If someone makes us an offer which changes that view, then it will change. "But it hasn’t happened. At the clubs I’ve managed, I’ve learned that there are always bigger clubs than you. “We can’t do anything about the speculation but we won’t be bullied. If we feel an offer is good for us and for him, he’ll go and if not, we’re lucky to have him in our squad.”
