Addictions

As a lot of folk know, I tend to like a bevvy, Quite a big binge to be exact. The withdrawals and the paranoia are scary. I'm currently trying to detox myself. I know I need help, and arranging a docs appointment for next week, and looking to get professional help, joined a forum that deals with addictions. Feeling at rock bottom just now, and on a rapid downfall to lose everything.

 

Has anyone else coped with addictions, Or had experienced this with family members?  Don't need to be Alcohol, Can be Drugs, Gambling, Smoking, Porn etc... How did you or your family deal with this?

I think you either have an addictive personality or you don't Kev,I do so tend to avoid doing to much of the one thing where possible.

I think you need to find other Interests away from Booze myself,take up hillwalking or fishing get yerself away to fuck from the source of the problem.

Basically don't just have one outlet bud have several that you can alter or change to suit the weather etc but keep you away from booze altogether.

You don't need booze Kev to function but you do need support ,understanding and love to get you out of the rut you have found yourself in.

The main thing to remember is you got yourself into that rut and you can and will with will power and support get yersel to fuck out of it.

The first step is recognising you own the problem.

It appears you have already overcome that pal the rest is the easy bit.

Don't surround yourself with negitivity or negitive people pal get both them to fuck till you can deal with them rationally and with clarity.

Only surround yourself with folk who actually care and do want to help...your wean is a good place to start.

If you need an ear I will be here and I won't give you poor or bad advice if asked.

 

Good luck with your journey to a new and improved you.

Thanks m8, Been through this before, But this i feel is my last chance. I have probably had a problem for about nearly 20 Years. Hospitalised for 1 month 6 years ago, and managed to stay off it for nearly 2 and a half yrs. I fell back off the wagon after not following my recovery plan. I need to take the next step of getting help, I was referred for help in January, but this was never followed up by them or me. I need to deal with this now. ;)

Including the daft cunt in the mirror in the morning that say's..never again.

Get a Gym membership pal ,by some walking gear and a fucking papoose big enough for baw jaws and walk the shite right out yer system bud.

Don't fuck about pal do it now and relish the change.

Yer wean will love it I guarantee it.

Plenty of hills about here, I'd need to drive up the steep hill to get to it, The road up is a killer on its own lol. Walking is smething that would interest me. Fishing too. Just need to get sorted and get my finances sorted too. Getting chased for a few things the now, that ain't helping.

I 2nd the walking Kev. I love walking and can always think and sort out my problems while I'm walking. I,d say I walk at least 2 hours a day. U dont need fields or hills either.....just walk the streets if u have to.

The booze is brutal mate. I watched my uncle destroy himself with it, eventually succumbing to pneumonia and he passed away in 2006 He was enough to scare me well away from the path he choose. The DT's( hallucinations , shakes and everything else) is a terryfying and major mind fuck of an experience for anyone going through it witnessing it.

 

He was actually dry for a 4 year period and was pretty active going swimming and to AA and even volunterred for the special olympics way back in the late 80's early ninties but he had a set back and fell back into bad habits and bad company- this is in bold because its a major hurdle for addicts so called pals crawl out from rocks and that kleads to the usual peer pressure and eventual setbacks. So you might have to seriously consider whose company yer keeping if you feel its gonnae hinder you mate.

 

Also if you cant just have one have none mate. If your really bad then I would maybe try substitution start  drinking coffee or smoking weed. aye most addiction councilors will say substitution dowsnt work but then they turn round and give herion addicts methodone which is just as adictive as smack if slighly less dangerous.

 

I think the most important thing is to be ready to quit mate and i mean really commited you need to do it for yourself and nobody else first and foremost, convince yourself your doing it for the family and it will not last as long.Also find out the reasons that make you drink in the first place whether its stress or lack of confidence or whatever drives you to it and try to eliminate the cause remove that and you will remove a lot of the desire to drink mate.

 

Ive got a lot of experience  with addicts via pals and that so hopefully what ive typed and whatever else is banging abiout my head helps mate.

 

Also mate always remember that your better than the booze mate and you owe to yourself to regain your control and your life

Mate the fact youve posted this on the board shows guts and a determination to get advice from others who have seen that path and ultimately help yourself, so kudos for that mate it took balls
