CELTIC will introduce safe-standing areas from the start of next season.

The club confirmed in their season-ticket renewal information that rail seats would be installed over the summer.

The modified area will be in the corner of the Lisbon Lions Stand at Celtic Park, where the Green Brigade fans' group are located.

Celtic were granted permission from authorities in June last year to introduce the safe standing area - based on versatile seating common at German grounds. Their initial plans were to accommodate up to 2,600 supporters.

The club also announced the freeze on season ticket prices for the 2016/17 season.

Safe-standing has proved popular especially in Germany where it is widely used across the Bundesliga .

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell spoke of his delight was delighted when it was announced.

"Celtic has worked tirelessly on this issue and we are delighted that this permission has finally been granted.

“The introduction of rail seating at Celtic Park represents an investment in spectator safety. Across football globally, the reality is that some supporters are choosing to stand at matches.

"This is something we must accept and manage and also understand the positive effect which these areas have on atmosphere at matches."

Celtic safe standing announcement branded 'insensitive' by Hillsborough campaigner

Aspinall, whose 18-year-old son James died in the Hillsborough tragedy, told the Telegraph: “It’s insensitive to announce that right at this time, a week just after the verdicts. It’s very insensitive.”

She added: “We will always oppose any form of standing.”
